Directed by Cate Shortland, “Lore” is a visually spellbinding drama and a lyrical and deeply moving study of the Holocaust. At the close of the war in Germany 1945, a group of children set out to cross a devastated country to reach their Grandmother some 900 km to the North. The eldest, Lore (Saskia Rosendahl), is left in charge of her four younger siblings when their SS Nazi parents are taken into Allied custody. In meeting the charismatic and intriguing Thomas (Kai Malina), a young  jewish refugee, Lore soon finds her world shattered by feelings of both hatred and desire. She is transfixed by her fear of the young man, but must trust the one person whom she has always been taught is the enemy in order to survive...

About the director:

Director and screenwriter Cate Shortland was born in 1968 in Temora, Australia. She studied fine arts at Sydney University and directing in Australian Film, Television and Radio School (both in Sydney, Australia). C. Shortland has written and directed four multiple award-winning short films: “Strap on Olympia” (1995), “Pentuphouse” (1998), “Flowergirl” (2000) and “Joy” (2000). She also worked for television and directed TV series and TV films. C Shortland wrote and directed her first feature “Somersault” (2004) which premiered at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival (France) in the “Un Certain Regard” section and was awarded Australian Film Institute Awards for best direction and screenplay. “Lore” is director‘s second full-length feature film.
