Les Amours Imaginaires
Director: Xavier Dolan

Canada, 2010, drama, 102 min, french and english with lithuanian subtitles, T

Two inseparable friends Francis (Xavier Dolan) and Marie (Monia Chokri) meet Nicolas (Niels Schneider), who has just come to Montreal. Their friendship soon grows into a love triangle, as both Marie and Francis start duelling to get Nicolas’s attention. As the tension heightens, the obsessive passion and destructive behaviour become a serious threat to the friendship they once thought indestructible. “Heartbeats” is a dramatic love story in a stylish and visually stimulating package. The emotionality of the plot is intensified by the brilliant performances by the young actors, and especially Monia Chokri. The film premiered in the “Un Certain Regard” category at the Cannes Film Festival. The screening was followed by standing ovation and Xavier Dolan was awarded the “Prix Regard Jeune” prize.

2010 – Prix Regard Jeune in the “Un Certain Regard” category of the Cannes Film Festival, France.
2010 – Prize of Sydney Film Festival, Australia.

About the director:

Xavier Dolan was born in Montreal in 1989. He started acting in cinema and television as a child, encouraged by his father, the famous Canadian actor Manuel Tadros. Dolan wrote his first script at the age of 17. His directorial debut “I Killed My Mother” (J'ai tué ma mère), based on that script, was released three years later in 2009 and soon became incredibly successful. It was nominated for 25 and won 19 awards, among them three prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and a nomination for the César award in the category of Best Foreign Film. In his films Xavier Dolan explores human relationships and topics of homosexuality, adding his personal experience. “Heartbeats” (Les Amours Imaginaires) is the second film by the 21-year-old director and it earned him the second invitation to the Cannes Film Festival.
