About director:

Oleg Sentsov (1976, Simferopol, Ukraine) studied Economics in Kyiv and followed courses for script writing and directing in Moscow. After directing two shorts he made his feature film debut in 2012 with GAAMER, presented in the Bright Future section in Rotterdam and won the numerous awards at international festivals including… Russia (“Spirit of Fire” in Khanty-Mansyisk). Two years later, in May of 2014, during the delay in production of his second feature  “Rhino”, Sentsov has been arrested in Ukrainian Crimea by Federal Security Service of Russia, (FSB, former KGB) on suspicion of "plotting terrorist acts” and detained in Moscow’s Lefortovo prison. Director denies any wrongdoing, states the kidnapping and tortures by FSB officials, accuses Russian authorities in deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship and connects his arrest with his pro-Maidan activism and campaign of intimidation against those who disagree with Russian’s annexation of Crimea. Oleg Sentsov’s case starts the global campaign calling for director's release – numerous world-famous film artists such as Agnieszka Holland, Ken Loach, Mike Leigh, and Pedro Almodóvar joined it.
