You Are God

Jestes bogiem
Director: Leszek Dawid

Poland, Drama, 2012, 110 min, polish with english and lithuanian subtitles, N-7

“You Are God“ is one of the biggest Polish film premieres of 2012 and eagerly anticipated for over a decade. It is the the story of late 90‘s generation, three friends behind the music. This is a story about the “Paktofonika“, one of Poland's pioneer hip-hop bands. This film waited nearly 10 years for production, and at a certain point there was talk of it not being made. The delay in the film’s production made it possible to portray that period from the perspective of time. The piece became an important and bitter testimony to how certain socioeconomic reforms underwent in Poland and what opportunities were available to the young generation of the time. “This is not another touching tale about the good excluded, but a radical story about a world, where those who do not fight, drown. It is based on facts, documented in detail, perfectly constructed and addresses contradictions in hip-hop”, - Roman Pawłowski, “Gazeta Wyborcza“.

2012 – prize for the best film at the Gdynia Film Festival.(Poland).
2013 – prize for the best editing (Jarosław Kamiński) in Polish Film Awards.
