Film director Mathew (Philippe Garrel) is working on a new autobiographical film. For the lead part he casts an actress that makes his actress wife (Brigitte Sy) jealous. The main Issue in this delicate complex piece is the disability to separate cinema from life and the way these two are nurturing each other. In many ways this is a “family film”: the director Garrel is performing as himself, his partner Brigitte Sy is performing as his wife and in the age of five their son Louis Garrel (today a known actor and director in France) is making his baby steps (literally) in the cinematic world.

About the director:

Philippe Garrel is a French director, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor and producer. His movies have won him awards at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. He was born in Paris in 1948, the son of actor Maurice Garrel. He started his film career early directing and writing his first film “Les Enfants Désaccordés” in 1964. Philippe Garrel received numerous awards and nominations, over a ten year period he enjoyed a good run of critical recognition at the Venice Film Festival.
