Songs from the Second Floor

Sånger från andra våningen
Director: Roy Andersson

Sweden, France, Germany, Denmark, Comedy, drama, 2000, 94 min, swedish with english and lithuanian subtitles, T
One evening, somewhere in the Notehrn Hemisphere, a series of dramatic events takes place: an office worker is fired in a demeaning way, a lost immigrant is violently attacked in a busy street, a magician fails at a magic trick... In the middle of this devastation stands Karl (Lars Nordh), covered in soot from his furniture store, which he has himself burnt down for the insurance money. A lot of people find it hard to sleep that night... Roy Andersson‘s “Songs from the Second Floor”, nominated for the Palme d‘Or Award at the Cannes International Film Festival 2000, is a stylized surrealistic exploration of the pointlessness of modern life.
