The Acacias

Las Acacias
Director: Pablo Giorgelli

Argentina, Spain, Drama, road movie, 2011, 84 min
Rubén is a lonely truck driver who has been covering the motorway from Asunción del Paraguay to Buenos Aires for years, carrying wood. However, this time his journey happens to be different. His boss has asked him as a favor to pick up a woman passenger. Early morning, at a motorway stop near Asunción, Jacinta shows up an hour later to begin her truck journey to Buenos Aires, where she is going to look for a job. Rubén finds out at the very last moment that a little 8 month old-baby will travel with them. It is not the best beginning for the driver, but as kilometers go by, the relationship between Rubén and Jacinta develops. They slowly dip into each other's soul. Neither of them talks much about their lives, or asks about that much either. The dialogue between the characters is minimal, the scenes are sound tracked by the engine noise of the truck and much of the film takes place inside the truck's cab. It is a journey of few words and slow action, but it is far from an emotionless one.
