The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González

The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José González
Director: Mikel Cee Karlsson, Fredrik Egerstrand

Sweden, documentary, 75 min., 2010, lithuanian and english subtitles
The film revolves around the life and mind of musician José González. Using congenial methods like video diary, surveillance camera, concert footage, tour documentation and animation, directors Mikel Cee Karlsson and Fredrik Egerstrand give form to something as elusive as the creative process of one of Sweden’s finest – and most secretive – musicians. In the film we follow José González through intimate and unique scenes shot during work with the long-awaited second album “In Our Nature” (2007). Through a diary, based on personal voice recordings we follow his everyday reflections. The film gives us an exclusive insight into the, at many times, lonely creative process and of one persons attempt to manage and understand his own existence. The film was shot over a three year period on location in Sweden, Japan, Singapore, United States, South Africa, England, Chile and Argentina – the birthplace of the singer’s parents. In 2010, the film was nominated for the Nordic Film Prize in the Göteborg Film Festival, Sweden.

About the directors:
Born in Varberg (Sweden) in 1977, Mikel Cee Carlsson, a former professional skateboarder, began his career with directing films about skateboarding. There he met Ruben Östlund (“The Involuntary”, 2008) and Erik Hemmendorff, emerging figures in new Swedish cinema. Apart from cinema he has directed several music videos – often in collaboration with the filmmaker Andreas Nilsson.
Fredrik Egerstrand was born on 7 October 1967 in Alingsås and is a Swedish actor, (video) director and artist. He worked as an actor for eleven years before he bought his first video camera. In 2000, Egerstrand graduated from the Valand Art Academy. He directed a few short films and several live performances for Swedish television.
