The Dud Effect

Nesprogusios bombos poveikis
Director: Deimantas Narkevičius

Lithuania, videofilm, 16 min., 2008
“The Dud Effect” is set on an abandoned former Soviet missile base in Lithuania. It was closed in the late 1970’s, but the remains of the structure are still impressive. The director interweaves archive footage of the area from the 70’s, some black and white photographs of the massive complex and a modern-day recreation of the rocket launch scenario, performed by the Russian officer (Jevgeniy Terentyev), who has actually served at this base. The simulated rocket launch recreates the process in great detail - the officer still knows his commands by heart - only there’s no rocket…
