Director: Deimantas Narkevičius

Lithuania, video film, 1998, 9 min., english subtitles
In this film, Deimantas Narkevičius and his loved ones remember their childhood and parents. The story of the memories begins on a seaside trip and continues on a train to his hometown. Later, the narrative moves to the filmmaker’s brother’s dream about their deceased parents and reaches its finale with the camera gazing into a grey forest of rigorous beauty. There is no pathos, pomp or condemnation of historical violence in the story, only melancholy and implicit confidence that it is human beings and not history that marks the road we choose. The film was shot using authentic Russian filming equipment from the 1960s.
