Family Nest

Családi tűzfészek
Director: Béla Tarr

Hungary, drama, 108min., 1979, lithuanian and english subtitles
A young family with a daughter are forced to live with the man’s parents in a small apartment where small incidents often grow into bitter fighting. The young family is desperately trying to find a way to escape from the home that has become a prison. It is no secret that vacant housing is abundant due to the unyielding red tape, but government officials imply very clearly that there is not chance they can get an apartment in the coming year. The situation in the tiny apartment is becoming unbearable… Thorough camera and documentary style recreate precisely the atmosphere of the grim 1970s in Hungary. This full feature by Béla Tarr is a dismal accusation of Communist policy.
